About the event

Beyond Choir Presents: Duruflé’s Requiem

Join Beyond Choir for a moving performance of Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem, a masterpiece of choral and orchestral beauty. Inspired by Gregorian chant and infused with lush harmonies, Duruflé’s setting offers a profound sense of peace, reflection, and hope.

This limited performance engagement is presented in memory of Pope Francis. A letter reflecting on this dedication may be viewed at beyondchoir.org/openletter

Composed in 1947, Requiem is one of Duruflé’s most celebrated works, blending ancient chant melodies with impressionistic harmonies and rich orchestral textures. Unlike the dramatic intensity of other well-known requiem settings, Duruflé’s interpretation is deeply meditative and luminous, offering a message of comfort and rest rather than fear and judgment. His careful integration of Gregorian chant themes with modern harmonies creates a unique and timeless sound that continues to move audiences around the world.
