For Educators

Beyond Choir is proud to collaborate with music educators across Michigan and the Midwest. Our goal is to support teachers and inspire students through meaningful artistic partnerships, professional learning opportunities, and access to high-quality choral performance.

Our network includes more than 200 singers, many of whom are licensed music educators, conductors, and professional performers. Together, we seek to strengthen the choral community by sharing expertise, mentoring young singers, and creating opportunities for educators and students to engage with advanced choral repertoire.

We welcome partnerships with school choirs, music programs, universities, and community ensembles.

Professional Development

Beyond Choir offers professional learning experiences designed for choral educators at all stages of their careers. These sessions explore practical rehearsal strategies, vocal pedagogy, and approaches to interpreting diverse choral repertoire.

Educational experiences may include:

  • rehearsal observations with Beyond Choir

  • masterclasses and workshops

  • discussions on rehearsal technique and ensemble leadership

  • exploration of stylistic interpretation across choral traditions

  • collaborative conversations with professional singers and conductors

Our education programs are led primarily by Dr. Brandon Johnson, DMA, with additional guest facilitators invited as appropriate.

Many programs may offer State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECH) for Michigan educators when approved through the Michigan Department of Education. When available, these learning opportunities are typically offered at little or no cost to participating educators, reflecting our commitment to supporting teachers and strengthening music education in our communities.

Beyond Choir frequently collaborates with school music programs, collegiate ensembles, community choirs, and professional performing organizations to create enriching musical experiences for singers and audiences alike.

Through these partnerships, students and community singers have the opportunity to engage directly with professional musicians while exploring advanced choral repertoire and rehearsal techniques.

Possible collaborations include:

  • guest clinician visits

  • rehearsal coaching and masterclasses

  • side by side performances with student or community ensembles

  • collaborative festival performances

  • adjudication and feedback sessions

Beyond Choir also partners with local and regional community choirs, as well as leading professional ensembles. Recent collaborations have included work with organizations such as the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and performances connected with international touring productions including Andrea Bocelli.

These partnerships allow singers and educators to experience the collaborative nature of professional music making while building stronger connections across the regional choral community.
