Megan Higle

Megan Higle has been involved in teaching music since 1999. Megan earned a Bachelor of Music: Vocal Performance summa cum laude from Marygrove College (Detroit) and a Master of Music: Choral Conducting from Oakland University (Rochester).

She is currently the Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church of Lansing (since 2015) and the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of the Lansing Children’s Choir (since 2016). Megan, since 2017, has been the Artistic Director of the DeWitt Community Singers (DCS). DCS recently embarked on their first European tour of Italy, including singing a Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica and at St. Francis of Assisi. The choir will be headed to Montreal and Quebec City next summer. Megan served on the Mayor’s Arts and Culture Commission for the City of Lansing, where they developed ways for children to create art in a Post COVID community and offered recommendations to the Lansing Public School District for all students. Megan is an active vocal coach, piano teacher and conducting coach in Lansing. She was the Music Director for Project DayDream (Birmingham): shows include Seussical the Musical, Wizard of Oz, Beauty and the Beast, Rent, Willy Wonka Jr., Little Mermaid Jr., Annie, Cinderella and Lès Miserable. She was Adjunct Faculty at Marygrove College where she taught courses in Ear Training, Music Technology, World Music and Music Appreciation. She was also an instructor for the Institute of Music and Dance while at Marygrove teaching voice class, vocal coaching and piano to school age youth in the city of Detroit. She was the vocal coach for All-Of-Us-Express production of “Little Shop Of Horrors, Jr.” in East Lansing.

Megan was the Assistant Conductor of the Oakland Chorale, Oakland University Chorus and Oakland Symphony Chorus under the direction of Dr. Michael A. Mitchell and served as Special Lecturer for the Oakland University Chorus while Dr. Mitchell was on sabbatical. She worked under Suzanne Mallare Acton (Rackham Symphony Choir) as her conducting intern for two years. She has been a part of the ACDA-MI Board for over ten years. During her role as Repertory & Resource Chair for Children & Community Youth she has provided many articles to the newsletter; aided in the successful presentation and collaboration with children during the ACDA-MI Conference in 2017; and has been a consistent voice on the ACDA-MI Board. She is currently on the Executive Board, serving as the Historian.

Her positive energy and love of choral music has enabled her to be an active choral clinician for middle school and high school choirs in the state. She is an active member of The American Choral Directors Association and serves as the Repertory and Resources Chair for Children and Community Youth Choirs for Michigan. She is also a member of The Michigan School Vocal Music Association, Chorus America and Music Teachers National Association.
